Constitution of the Association of Technology in Medicine


Article I
Name
The name of this organization shall be the Association of Technology in Medicine



Article II
Affiliation
This organization shall be affiliated with University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and shall abide by its constitution and bylaws. The constitution and bylaws shall not be in conflict with the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign policies and procedures, local, state, federal laws. UIUC Student Code ~ Article 2: General Policies and Regulations shall take precedence over the constitution and bylaws.



Article III
Purpose
The purpose(s) of this organization shall be to create a diverse and dedicated community of people who are interesting in the technical side of the medical field.



Article IV
Members

Section 1. Membership shall be restricted to currently enrolledUIUC students, faculty, staff, and their spouses.

Section 2. Active members shall be currently enrolled students at UIUC.

Section 3. Associate members shall include faculty, staff,and/or their spouses currently appointed at UIUC.

Section 4. New members shall be currently enrolled studentsat UIUC.

Section 5. In accordance with the Student Code ~ Article 2:General Policies and Regulations, there shall be no discrimination against a member or prospective member on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, disability, unfavorable discharge from the military, or status as a disabled veteran or veteran of the Vietnam era, except as specifically exempted by law. Among the forms of invidious discrimination prohibited by University policy but not law is sexual orientation.

Section 6. No semester/annual dues shall be paid by active members of the organization.


Article V
Purpose

Section 1. The officers of the association shall be President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Membership Director. These officers shall perform the duties prescribed by the constitution and bylaws in addition to the parliamentary authority adopted by the organization.

Section 2. The duties and responsibilities of the officers shall include, but not be limited to the following: organizing events, keeping members informed, managing membership requests, and maintaining a welcoming environment.

Section 3. The executive board shall consist of the following officers: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Membership Director.


Article VI
Elections

Section 1. Officers shall have met the following eligibility criteria to hold office: been an active member of the organization and in good standing.

Section 2. Officers shall be nominated in March of each year according to election schedule.

Section 3. Officers shall be elected to serve for one term of office, or until their successors are elected. Their terms of office shall be one year.

Section 4. Eligible voters shall include all active members.


Article VII
Committees

Section 1. The following committees shall be standing, permanent committees of the organization: Organization, Grievances.

Section 2. Committee chairpersons shall be appointed by the President.

Section 3. Purpose of each committee shall include: handling any problems that may arise and ensuring the smooth operation of the Association.


Article VIII
Meetings

Section 1. The organization shall hold regularly scheduled meetings as determined by the organization President.

Section 2. Meetings shall be held no less than once every 2 academic weeks during the fall and spring semesters.

Section 3. Special meetings shall be called into session by the organization or the executive board as appropriate and necessary. The purpose of the meeting shall be stated in a notice to the organization membership and 3 days notice shall be given except in cases of emergency or extreme circumstances.


Article IX
Activities

Section 1. The organization shall hold regular business meetings and the following activities: lecture series, research analysis, and presentations.


Article X
Bylaws

Section 1. Organization bylaws shall contain policies and procedures relevant to the operations of the organization and shall not contradict the constitution.

Section 2. Organization bylaws shall be amended by a simple majority vote by the active membership of the organization (or other applicable process).


Article XII
Ammendments

Section 1. Amendments to the constitution shall be introduced by any active member.

Section 2. Amendments will be voted upon at the first meeting following the introduction of the amendment.

Section 3. This constitution may be amended by a 2/3 majority vote of the organization.
